Vietnamese language school in Japan opens new academic year

The Cay Tre (Bamboo) Vietnamese Language School officially commenced its 2026-2027 academic year with a vibrant ceremony at the Higashi Osaka Cultural Centre on March 21. The event, which marked the start of the school’s K5 course, drew a significant gathering of students, parents, and community leaders dedicated to preserving their cultural heritage while living abroad.

During the proceedings, School Principal Le Thuong highlighted the school's evolution and the vital role the Vietnamese language plays in bridging the gap between generations. She emphasized that in an era of rapid global integration, fluency in one's mother tongue serves as a crucial link to ancestral roots, helping younger overseas Vietnamese maintain strong family bonds and a meaningful connection to their homeland.

The current academic session is being held in direct alignment with Politburo Resolution No. 80-NQ/TW, a landmark policy issued in January 2026 that positions culture as a core pillar of national development. By fostering language literacy, the school’s activities provide a practical model for implementing this national strategy, aiming to cultivate a unified and resilient Vietnamese community within Japan.

The school currently supports approximately 80 students across three distinct classes, offering both in-person and digital learning options. To create a more engaging environment, the curriculum is supplemented with various extracurricular activities and exchange programs designed to strengthen the social ties among the youth and make the learning process more dynamic.

The educational mission is carried out by a team of 12 dedicated staff members, which includes three professional educators and nine volunteers. The opening ceremony concluded with a series of spirited cultural performances by the students, featuring traditional songs and a dramatic rendition of the folk tale "The Frog at the Bottom of the Well," which was met with warm applause from the guests and representatives from the Vietnamese Consulate General in Osaka.
